L’Enfant Plaza, a mixed-use development owned and managed by The JBG Companies, received the Best Retail Project – Dining & Entertainment award Thursday from the Maryland/DC chapter of National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), a commercial real estate development association.
Presented at the NAIOP Awards of Excellence Gala at the Willard Intercontinental in Washington, D.C., the Best Retail Project – Dining & Entertainment award recognizes L’Enfant Plaza for the vibrant retail identity and experience its newly renovated food court area offers customers. L’Enfant Plaza topped competitors from the District, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Frederick counties in Maryland to win the award.
“This recognition from the Maryland/DC chapter of NAIOP is a great validation of our hard work over many months to secure the best mix of retail and restaurants for this new era at L’Enfant Plaza,” said Britt Snider, senior vice president with The JBG Companies, which worked with SmithGroupJJR on the renovation. “By creating a destination that offers quality national brand food and soft good retail tenants, we defined a new approach to the traditional food court. Now, as we carry forward the property’s East Retail success into the West Retail area, we will further refine and enhance all of L’Enfant Plaza.”
The West Retail area is currently under construction and will bring an additional 75,000 square feet of shopping, dining, and services to L’Enfant Plaza. Upon completion in the summer of 2014, the newly expanded retail promenade will offer a highly visible sculptural glass gateway entrance at the plaza level along with outdoor seating on the beautifully landscaped plaza.
The retail locations at L’Enfant Plaza serve workers, visitors and residents in the District’s southwest quadrant. Five million commuters pass through L’Enfant Plaza Metro station annually. Approximately 20,000 commuters enter or exit at L’Enfant Plaza Metro station every weekday; 4,500 enter or exit on weekends. Additionally, 28,500 employees’ offices are positioned within a half-mile radius of L’Enfant Plaza.
